The companies Bilz and HAIMER, market leaders in inductive shrinking technology which together through the years have established shrink fit technology as a standard option for tool holding in the high precision metal cutting industry, have come to an important agreement. Both companies have agreed to respect each other’s strong patent position and have established extensive cross licenses in the content of the new agreement.
After years of patent law conflicts during multiple proceedings in the German courts, both worldwide leading companies in Tool Shrinking Technology, Bilz Werkzeugfabrik GmbH& Co. KG and Haimer GmbH, have found a mutually beneficial solution and settled their lawsuits. Both companies possess extensive and strong patents in the area of tool shrinking and now mutually respect the legal validity of all intellectual property rights in question. The agreement also includes extensive cross licenses, which create legal certainty for both companies and their customers.
Andreas Haimer, Director and Member of Executive Board at HAIMER comments that this agreement is: „A good solution for the German medium sized businesses and the inductive shrink fit technology market in general.” Michael Voss, President of Bilz Group, adds:” With this solution customers can openly use two convincing systems, which can be used compatibly without the fear of legal restrictions or license fees.”
A new stimulus for the inductive shrinking technology is expected from this mutually beneficial solution. Based on this legal foundation, both companies will invest even more in R&D to further develop the high end shrink fit machines and holders.
Finally the inductive shrink fit technology offers significant advantages in the tool clamping area as compared to other options: Apart from the outstanding run out accuracy of the shrink fit holders, this system offers the widest variety of manufacturer’s producing shrink fit holders. The shrink fit technology is the only system with a stationary tool clamping unit which enables the application of standardized shrink fit tool holders from multiple suppliers. Conversely, if the customer choses a special solution for tool holding such as press fit or polygonal clamping systems with specific limited manufacturers, forcing them to be restricted in the selection of tool holders at an expensive investment of a stationary special tool clamping unit, he can use a wide assortment of shrink fit tool holders from HAIMER or the Thermogrip Group when shrinking is the tool holder system of choice. Andreas Haimer and Michael Voss agree: ”The majority of all customers have realized this decisive fact and the shrink fit technology is regarded as the new standard in the tool holding area. No other system offers more advantages and a higher market acceptance. Hydraulic and Weldon chucks belong to the past; other special and expensive clamping methods won’t be implemented due to a lack in flexibility and technical advantages.”

HAIMER Cool Flash: Optimized coolant bores with coolant outlet through slots |

Haimer, the world's leading supplier of tool holding, exhibits from September 18th until 22th 2012 at the AMB show, the industry’s leading trade fair for metal working in 2012. On the occasion of the 35-years anniversary, HAIMER presents successful developments in the area of high quality tool holding and practical special machines for shrinking and balancing. You can experience our latest technology in Hall 1, Booth #C59.
This year’s highlights include the evolution of collet chuck technology as well as the Cool Flash- and the Safe-Lock-System. The new Power Collet Chucks are Collet Chucks dedicated to high speed cutting (HSC), which you can use for virtually all types of fine as well as rough machining and drilling operations. They have a reinforced wall thickness and particularly stiff outer contour, making them exceptionally stable and resistant to vibration. Of course, all Power Collets can optionally be equipped with Safe-Lock, the patented safety belt for your cutting tools.
True to the slogan “make good things even better” HAIMER has developed the Cool Flash-System out of the existing Cool Jet-System. The coolant is pressed out by several slots, floats around the cutting tool and cools up to the cutting edge. For this reason balls of chips on the cutting tool belong to the past, whereby you extend the tool life up to 100%.
In Hall 1, Booth #C59 you can experience 35 years of innovation and passion for precision at HAIMER and we look forward to a welcoming atmosphere in a high-tech surrounding.
At our AMB Safe-Lock lottery we will raffle off one free Apple iPad each day – come by and answer the questions to be in the draw!
We are looking forward to your visit and enjoy the AMB 2012!
